Salt of the mountains, right at home on your shelf. Our salt is all-natural, hand-harvested, and hand-processed on our small farm in Malden, West Virginia. Our brine source flows beneath our feet, protected from surface contaminants. Our salt has a flavor that is unique to this area: briny, bright, and slightly sweet on the tongue.

How It’s Made

Every grain of our salt is made by hand—by us, for you. Never imported or rushed. Each crystal is carefully harvested and cleaned, untouched by heavy machinery, made by real hands. The result is a natural salt that is microplastic-free, free from additives, and earth-conscious.

It begins beneath our feet in Malden, West Virginia, where an ancient brine runs deep within the earth. Formed some 400–500 million years ago and preserved by seismic activity, this brine carries the memory of an ancient sea that once lapped the shores of what is now Scotland.

We are not the first to draw from it. Long before us, Native Americans discovered these salt springs, beginning a tradition that would shape the Kanawha Valley for generations. Later, our ancestors started J.Q. Dickinson & Co., supplying the U.S. with the majority of its salt. Today, we simply carry that story forward.

Using a modest pump, we draw the brine from 350 feet below the surface—nothing industrial or excessive, just a gentle approach that honors the land we love. From there, the brine flows into our sun houses, where we harness the warmth of the sun. No boiling or shortcuts, just simply sunlight and time.

Slowly, dictated only by nature, the water evaporates, and crystals begin to form. When the moment is just right, we hand-harvest and slowly dry the salt. From there, the salt is jarred and labeled by hand just a few feet from where it is harvested, and sent out all over the world.

Cooking / Popcorn Salt

Our finest grain, this salt melts effortlessly into broths, disappears into doughs, and clings perfectly to warm, buttered popcorn. This grain carries a clean, bright minerality. Like all our salt, it is harvested and hand processed on our farm in West Virginia.

Finishing Salt

Our most beloved grain, and for good reason. This salt transforms a dish just before it’s served. Each crystal offers a gentle crunch and a pleasant burst of briny depth that lingers on the palate, with a touch of sweetness. Sprinkle it over a perfectly cooked steak or scatter across a warm chocolate chip cookie.

Our largest crystals, left unrefined. This salt tells the story of the salt’s natural formation in our brine beds. Made for the mill, freshly cracked over your meal to release our salt’s full character.

Crafted using retired white oak barrels from Smooth Ambler Distillery, this salt is slowly smoked to draw out a mellow sweetness. The influence of bourbon lingers subtly in the background.
