A spurtle is a 15th Century Scottish kitchen utensil that was used to stir porridge and soup. It's shape prevents clumping. It is great for grits, polenta, oatmeal and thick soups. This one is made of cherry by Allegheny Treenware in Thornton, WV. It was designed by their employee Joel, hence the name Jurtle. You won't believe you've been cooking without this useful tool!
